Well I haven’t got the faintest idea about how many of you are familiar with endometriosis or upto what extent you amass the consciousness with the same. I am affirming this because it takes around 7-10 years to harmonize the exact diagnosis of endometriosis. Now you all must be pondering is it so? 🤔
Well quite anomalous Na. But it’s true because many of its symptoms are coupled to the trait of other condition (gonna reveal soon) which actually bemuse the practitioner, thus entangle them to role out the exact problem which unfortunately lead to misdiagnosis.
But the matter of great concern lies around “Why it takes an exceptional time to interpret”, Well to my understanding the major dilemma manifests to the customary taboos and myths, which prevents us to openly discuss about it, by the virtue of which many of us silently bear the excessive chronic and debilitating pain which actually is not normal.
Furthermore, still we find it embarrassing to talk and candidly I don’t know what kind of discomfit emotion we love to experience where it seems to have birthright (born as female) to dealt with it silently in pain but not for meagre days or months but for years and years, thus equivalent to put your health at stake…..See endometriosis doesn’t have any age barrier, it can affect anyone (in reproductive age from 12-52). Moreover due to its enigmatic proclivity, many often experience a long delay in diagnosis.
In uncomplicated way, just understand that there is a formation of tissue similar to endometrium (the inner lining of the uterus which thickens and renews itself each month making ready for pregnancy, if you conceive and if not then the endometrium sheds in a process known as menstruation) grows outside the uterine cavity.
And normally there is a myth to which we dwell our entire lives that this growth can only develop in the reproductive organ but actually it can spread to the bowels, appendix, diaphragm, bladder, peritoneum (lining of abdominal cavity), rectum or even lungs.
See the exact cause of it is unknown. It’s symptoms also vary from mild to moderate to severe which can be determined on certain factors like- it’s location, size, depth of implant etc.
It can be troublesome in many ways:
- Abnormal and painful periods.
- Severe pain in lower abdomen, pelvis or lower back pain before or during menstruation .
- Painful Sexual intercourse.
- Infertility.
- Diarrhoea, Constipation, Nausea, Bloating, Cramps etc.
- Painful urination, blood in urine etc.
You remember what I mentioned earlier about the camouflage genre of endometriosis, for eg: As it was seen majorly in women’s who have some sort of gastrointestinal related issues often misdiagnosed with IBS, Chrons Disease, Celiac disease because often doctor mishear its occurrence to the other parts of body (mentioned above) accompanied with the counterfactual presumption that the painful bowel and pelvic pain with vomiting are normal during menstruation.
See, with mother wit you can sense the normal and abnormalities which implies that, “An individual who experiences the painful period doesn’t mean that gets encountered with endometriosis”. Rather one should grasp the extremity of their situation if it is making you completely helpless in doing your normal chores even after gulping untold doses of painkiller then it’s not normal and need proper diagnosis which will be possible only if your doctor is well experienced to not only relate it upto reproductive parts but also consider its essence to other parts of organs too.
Now you will be definitely thinking how to tackle this condition because it would definitely bring the paradigm shifts to life, if left untreated and I will redress your query with an honest-to-goodness stroke that, well it has no cure yet but wait…..it’s symptoms can be managed. Firstly your doctor will experiment the all sorts of conservative approaches like- pain medications, hormone therapies, contraceptives, etc and if all tactic goes in vain then the “Golden standard of diagnosis” is opted i.e surgery (to remove the implant and to have it done biopsied).
However, making dietary changes is a complementary approach that may help some women in managing their symptoms. Yet more research is to be needed but what we can do, is to take the edge off with the nutriments which triggers its symptoms and pick out the variants which would possibly relieve its symptoms, like-
- Diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.
- More veggies and fruits.
- A wholesome food.
- Avoid trans-fats.
- Limit the saturated fats, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods etc.
Some other approaches like – exercise and alternative therapies like- meditation, yoga, massage, acupuncture etc definitely soothe the endometriosis symptoms by leading towards tranquility, thus bolstering the self-reliance which might have been brought down by the years of stress in pursuit of proper resolution (diagnosis) and don’t you agree with cool- headedness the life on this planet is rudimental.😀
